BOOK SYNOPSIS
The murder of an innocent young woman on a secluded beach draws Palm Beach County Homicide Detective Taylor O’Ryan into the most dangerous investigation of her career. The hunt for the killer leads her to the pretentious world of Palm Beach, threatening those who have the most to lose.

Pulled deeper into the investigation, Taylor finds herself drawn to wealthy developer Nicholas Carrera; an enigmatic man her instincts tell her is central to her case. It’s a temptation she fights, knowing it could jeopardize her case and the career she’s worked so hard to build. As the murderer claims more lives and Taylor closes in, he sets his sights on her. And now solving the case isn’t just a matter of justice. It’s a matter of life or death.

BOOK EXCERPTS
She walked along the beach slowly, her feet sinking in the sand. White waves shimmered under a full moon as they crashed on the shore. Palm fronds rustled in a warm lazy breeze. During the day, the beach would be crowded with tourists and sun lovers. But now, in the middle of the night, it was all hers and his, and it was perfect.

She looked back over her shoulder and smiled at him as he trailed along behind her. He still wore his suit, his tie pulled away from his collar with the top button undone. But he walked barefoot, as she did. He smiled at her, straight white teeth in a handsome face.

She’d been attracted to him from the moment they’d met, but in her experience, successful men didn’t want a plain woman. They wanted a woman who would look good on their arm, someone who could fit in and be a part of their world. Someone she knew she could never be. Something she knew he realized, too.

Over the years, she’d worked with some of the wealthiest men in the country but always felt out of place around them. They needed her expertise to help them with their businesses, but they never looked to her for more than that.

They never really noticed her. She’d watch them time and again ask her coworkers out for drinks or dinner, but never was an offer made to her. They were unattainable, far out of her reach. Until a year ago.

That’s when her whole life changed. For the first time in years, she felt alive. She felt wanted. She felt beautiful.

Now, she stood here on this secluded beach, afraid she might say the wrong thing, make the wrong move. She knew they would make love. That’s why he brought her here.

She pushed away the nagging voice in her head that told her he was using her and had picked this lonely place so no one would see them together.

But she knew if he let her, she could make him happy. She desperately wanted the intimacy and the excitement and the hope that maybe this time it would be different. Maybe this time she could make him happy.

She held out her hand and he took it. They walked along the shore quietly for a few minutes and then she turned to him.

“I’m surprised you asked me to come out here with you,” she said, searching his face.

“Why?”

She shrugged and smiled a little. “I was just surprised, that’s all.”

His eyes were solemn. “Well, you shouldn’t be.” He leaned in and brushed his lips against hers, then lifted his head and tugged on her hand, leading her toward the privacy of the dunes.

They ran the last few yards, laughing, and he pulled her with him into the sea grass near the wooden steps that made their way over the dunes. The moonlight softly played over the two locked in a passionate embrace.

He gently moved her away from him and looked into her eyes. She felt hard metal press against her ribs and confusion crossed her features when she glanced down and saw a gun gleam in the moonlight.

She looked back up at him. “What are you––”

The gunshot threw her body back a few feet and she landed in the soft sand and sea grass.
