The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra is one of only a handful of U.S. orchestras to also incorporate a conservatory for music students, reflecting our belief that music is not only a listening experience for audiences, but a creative experience for our students. This $1500 will provide an underprivileged student a full year of weekly 1 hour music lessons in the Suzuki method, wherein students and parents learn together, and acquire music skills by learning to play the instrument by ear first, and learn to read music thereafter.
Motivational Prizes : J.J. Audubon Elementary School Kenner LA - Goal: $2000.00 - Current: $58.47 John James Audubon Elementary is located in Kenner,... John James Audubon Elementary is located in Kenner, Louisiana, which is in the Greater New Orleans Area. Our pre-kindergarten - fifth grade school was flooded by Hurricane Katrina. In the past, most of the students with good behavior have been overlooked while students with inappropriate behavior have been given all of the attention.
At Audubon, we want to make sure the students demonstrating appropriate behavior are rewarded with special privileges, praise, and prizes. Students with A's and B's in behavior on interim reports and report cards are given a Positive Behavior Support wrist band that states, Audubon Students are Safe, Respectful, & Responsible. Those students also get to fill out a "Wii think you are wonderful" slip that gives the student a chance to win a bicycle and numerous other prizes at our awards ceremony each nine weeks.
At the end of the year, all of the chances are put together and in addition to a chance to win numerous prizes and two bicycles in each grade level, one student will be chosen to win a Nintendo Wii. We would use donations to purchase prizes for our students.
Since the "It PAY$ to be GOOD" program began, there has been a drastic decrease in the number of behavior referrals at Audubon. We believe our "It PAY$ to be GOOD" program is the reason why.

Guitars : Vermilion Parish Schools Abbeville LA - Goal: $1750.00 - Current: $91.56 On June 27, 2007, Governor Kathleen Blanco of The State... On June 27, 2007, Governor Kathleen Blanco of The State of Louisiana signed a bill into law requiring the implementation of visual and performing arts curricula for all public school students (Act 175). The responsibility of enforcing the state laws concerning music curriculum falls under the umbrella of the Fine Arts Supervisor.
With the recent flood and wind damage to four (4) of our school facilities as a result of Hurricane Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008, our music programs suffered considerable loss in the form of equipment and instruments, making it difficult to enforce Act 175.
Twenty teachers from these respective schools will be given the opportunity to take part in our pilot program and earn a free guitar for their classes. As a requirement to earn the guitar, each teacher will receive professional development designed to show them how to perform, and deliver lessons incorporating music. The development classes will be designed, facilitated, and delivered by the Fine Arts Supervisor for Vermilion Parish Schools.
>From an initial gift of $1000 from Babylon Memorial Grade School in New York, and additional contributions from the AEE, we have purchased 10 of the 20 guitars.
